The Windkeep's Haircut
(to the Nazarites; for their wisdom and strength)

He tells her as he takes his seat
that she must forgive him his ways,
and
spare pardon for the wisdom required.

After all;

it is a different sort of caution that
we must heed at a time of change.

She nods silently
and begins her work---

strand by strand,
lock by lock,

painstakingly because
when we forget
how long it takes
for things to grow,

and get lost in the
ease with which
we can cut,

we lose a little more than
that which we destroy,

and some things can never grow back.
